E-retailer Ocado is available to 6.2 million households across the South East and Midlands, with plans to continue expanding throughout the year. By fulfilling orders from a world-class, central customer fulfilment centre, live inventory is shown on its web shop, enabling customers to choose from a range of groceries that are actually in stock. Using unique logistics software and satellite navigation systems in the vans, customers are sure to receive the right goods at the right time.
The Ocado fleet has been specially designed by Mercedes based on their Sprinter model, to tight specifications by Ocado. The back section of each van, where the groceries are carried, is called a Pod. Each Pod has separate compartments to carry chilled, frozen and ambient food so shopping arrives at exactly the right temperature and is always fresh.
